A class of beings indigenous to Earth's dimensional fabric, present in the same substrate as physical reality since before the current human civilization. Origin terrestrial and dimensional, distinct from extraterrestrial. These are beings of smokeless fire, a plasma-adjacent or electromagnetic composition, with free will, society, religion, and a complex historically adversarial relationship with humanity.

• Shape fluidity — capable of assuming any form; observed form carries no reliable information about underlying nature
• Territorial — associated with specific locations, geological features, abandoned structures, and liminal environments

What occurs when consciousness completes a physical incarnation is among the most emotionally charged subjects this catalog approaches. What the catalog can say honestly: the rendering inadequacies noted throughout make dismissing the question unwise. A citizen who has encountered what presented as a familiar presence from beyond physical death is operating within the same dimensional permeability that makes every other category possible.

The practical distinction between what presents as an ancestor or familiar presence and a non-human entity operating in the same dimensional layer is often unclear from inside the experience. The same assessment tools apply regardless of origin.

The gods, divine beings, and cosmic intelligences of older frameworks are the same beings in this catalog at a different scale, or a genuinely distinct order.

Morphological profile: 0.9 to 1.2 meters in height, compact and densely built, covered in dark matted hair, pointed ears and teeth, eyes with tapetal reflectivity consistent with nocturnal visual adaptation. Distinct morphological variants exist. These entities appear to be functional tools or probes, more than autonomous intelligences, with no communication capacity.

Underrepresented in the dominant research literature but observed across multiple regions. Beings described as orange or amber in skin tone or luminosity, humanoid in form, typically in the same height range as the Human-Presenting type (1.8 to 2.2 meters). Associated with craft that are similarly orange or amber-lit. Interaction tends to be brief and non-communicative. Distinct from the Ancient Engineer Class in HU-5. Beings of considerable stature, approximately 2.5 to 3 meters, who interacted with early human civilization over an extended period. Their relationship to the human population during that period appears to have been hierarchical and extractive, using human labor for resource extraction, a departure from the uplift-oriented relationship attested for other Ancient Engineer variants. Whether this represents a separate lineage or a faction of the broader Ancient Engineer category operating under different priorities is undetermined.

The morphological and caste profile for ant-type insectoid beings. For the subterranean operational profile and the shelter traditions, see MA-2. Shorter than the Mantid type, with physical characteristics more consistent with ant morphology: rounded head, multiple limb segments, different eye configuration. Small insectoid beings distinct from the Mantid overseer category perform procedural tasks, moving in groups and staying silent — possibly representing a worker or specialist caste within the broader insectoid lineage.

A specific Reptilian variant distinct from the ground-level Reptilian scouts in RE-1 by scale, authority, and apparent biological difference. Distinct from the HU-2 Ultraterrestrial categories: HU-2 documents a lineage presenting within the Grey-type morphological range, biologically degraded and non-human in appearance. HU-10 documents apparently human individuals in contemporary settings who display characteristics of temporal displacement — clothing inconsistent with the period, unfamiliarity with contemporary technology, accounts of events still to come described as already past. The MIB profile has deep historical roots. Multiple unconnected regions assigned these figures regional names — variations on the Dark Men, the Branch Men, the Tall Men — without cross-cultural contact. The consistency of physical description and behavioral pattern across unconnected regions and centuries establishes a pre-modern origin for the phenomenon.

What changes across eras is the cover identity. In periods when other forces held dominant social power, these figures claimed supernatural mandate. In the era of the nation-state they present as government officials. The costume changes while the profile and the operational pattern hold steady.

The term Men in Black entered public language through the research community and was subsequently adopted as the title of a major entertainment franchise. Any citizen searching for accounts must scroll through hundreds of references to a comedy film before reaching field data. Citizens are advised to hold this context when assessing their instinct to dismiss MIB accounts.

MIB as non-human entities indigenous to Earth's dimensional substrate — the same intelligence tradition appearing across history as demonic figures, fairies, and liminal beings associated with prohibited knowledge. This is the operational signature of an entity that feeds on confusion and distress.

MIB as temporal enforcement personnel policing unauthorized movement across time. Their appearance at UAP events reflects the fact that time-displaced craft and entities constitute the primary category of temporal violation requiring management. The wardrobe — a black suit, white shirt, black tie — is appropriate at almost any point across a century of formal convention. Technology fascination and difficulty with ordinary devices is consistent with displacement from a different period.

MIB as civilian operatives from organized research programs sent to prevent rival organizations from obtaining testimony and physical evidence. This model accounts for the ill-fitting suits and the obsessive focus on document and photograph recovery. The pre-modern accounts and the physical anomalies fall outside what this model explains.

MIB as classified government or contractor personnel managing witnesses with proximity to NHI-adjacent programs. Military intelligence services have declassified internal documents confirming that unknown parties were impersonating their officers to obtain UAP evidence — confirming the problem was real enough to generate official concern, while simultaneously confirming that the impersonators stayed unidentified even by the agencies themselves.

Lineage tracking is the longitudinal monitoring of specific human genetic and field lineages across generations. NHI categories engaged in hybridization programs, psionic development programs, or long-term biological research maintain genealogies of human family lines — tracking the inheritance of specific genetic markers, psionic capacity configurations, field architecture profiles, and incarnational patterns across multiple generations.

Acquisition is the active collection of biological or field material from individuals within a tracked lineage. This may include genetic sampling during structured encounters, collection of biological material without the citizen's awareness or consent, field-level data extraction during contact events, and in some cases the placement of hybrid offspring within human family lines to introduce or consolidate specific genetic configurations across subsequent generations.

NHI categories most associated with lineage operations:

• Short Grey-type units — field execution of acquisition procedures; the primary contact point for most citizens who encounter lineage-related procedures
• Tall Grey-type intelligences — oversight and direction of lineage programs; the operational layer above Grey field units
